Freeport is home to world-famous shopping, dining, and lodging that draws in 14.5 million tourists annually. Centrally located, there are over 170 outlets from luxury designers to casual boutiques and includes the famous L.L.Bean flagship store where guests can learn to fly fish, snowshoe, cross-country ski, and much more.

Freeport is distinguished as one of the Top 20 Greenest Areas in the Country. Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park has 200 acres of charming estuaries, expansive fields, hiking trails, and a quintessential rocky Maine coastline. The park offers year-round activities from birdwatching and picnicking to hiking and cross-country skiing.


Winslow Memorial Park
and Campground, located on a small peninsula, has 100 campsites, picnic shelters, trails, and a small public beach with a swimming platform, boat launch, and playground. The park also hosts a summer concert series with noted local artists.

Harraseeket Yacht Club is a volunteer organization for residents of Freeport and its surrounding communities. Located on the Harraseeket River near the Casco Bay opening, there is a dock system, clubhouse, youth sailing program, and over 300 moorings.


Education

Regional School Unit No. 5 serves the towns of Freeport, Durham and Pownal. The quality public school system includes Morse Street School (PK-2), Mast Landing School (Grades 3-5), Freeport Middle School (Grades 6-8), and Freeport High School (Grades 9-12). FHS has a small student body fostering student-centered education. A near majority of FHS students participate in Advanced Placement coursework and exams and boast some of the highest SAT scores in the State.

Many athletic, arts, and extracurriculars are offered to FMS and FHS students; the programs frequently receive recognition.
