Westbrook is well-known for Together Days, an annual 2-day festival drawing over 20,000 people from statewide. With activities for all ages, the spectacular event features a parade, auction, petting zoo, carnival, live entertainment, and fireworks.
Smiling Hill Farm, a 12th generation dairy farm, has many popular milk, cream, and ice cream products. The 500-acre working farm has barnyard animal exhibits of cows, horses, pigs, and more — a favorite attraction among children. Smiling Hill Farm also has 15 miles of wide, machine-groomed snowshoeing and cross-country skiing trails open to the public with rental equipment available.
Westbrook is home to several large industrial and commercial employers. Idexx Labs, a major NYSE-listed corporation, employees over 6,000 thousand people worldwide developing pharmaceutical-based therapies to keep animals healthy and milk and water clean.
Sappi Fine Paper North America, the site of the first coated paper making facility in the Country, produces specialty release papers and films. The paper mill takes great care to preserve the quality of the Presumpscot River by investing in technology to reduce solid waste, water waste, and air emissions.
Calpine Corporation, a Fortune 500 company, is America's largest generator of electricity from natural gas and geothermal resources. The Energy Center in town practices clean, efficient, and modern methods.
Education
The Westbrook School Department includes Canal Elementary School (K-4), Congin Elementary School (K-4), Saccarappa Elementary School (K-4), Westbrook Middle School (5-8), and Westbrook High School (9-12). WHS students have the opportunity to take Advancement Placement courses and exams; a variety of sports teams and extracurriculars are offered to WMS and WHS students.
